Lessons at Newell Piano Studio
The lesson year at Newell Piano Studio is divided into three 13-week semesters to ensure steady progress: Spring (Jan-Apr), Summer (May-Aug), and Fall (Sep-Dec). Each semester ends with a recital opportunity for all students to showcase their hard work! Read more about our recitals and performance opportunities here.
All lessons follow the studio calendar, offering 30 minutes for private lessons and 60 minutes for group lessons.
Tuition and Payment
Lessons are billed on a four-month semester basis containing 13 weeks of lessons. Tuition for the current semester is $410 per student. Tuition is reviewed annually and is subject to increase in future years. Tuition will be paid in four monthly installments of $102.50 using autopay via bank ACH or credit card via Stripe on the studio's Nova Music platform, with payments being deducted on the 1st of each month. What's the best age to start piano lessons?
The best age to start piano lessons is when a student is ready to learn and excited to begin! We teach students from age three and up, tailoring our programs to every age. Do we need to have a piano at home?
A piano at home is essential for progress, but it doesn’t need to break the bank. An 88-key digital piano with weighted keys is perfect for beginners. The keyboard should also be placed on a stand at the correct height and with a piano bench or similar seating.You can read more about my tips to find a piano here.
How much home practice time is expected?
For beginners, short and consistent practice is best, usually 10–15 minutes a day, 5-6 days a week. Students benefit greatly from family support! You can read about my home practice tips here. Families are often surprised at how quickly this routine becomes easy and enjoyable! The more you practice, the quicker you progress!
What if we miss or are late to a lesson?
If the teacher cancels the lesson, a makeup class is scheduled for a week with no lessons. If a student cancels, asynchronous (video) lessons are provided for missed classes. If you're running late, please still come and attend as much as you can! All attendance policy details are included in the welcome packet.
